The municipality of Valsequillo is preparing to celebrate the Potato and Corn Fair this Sunday, an event dedicated to highlighting its deep agricultural roots and the quality of its local products.
The fair will be held in the parking area behind the El Mercadillo pavilion, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This space will become the epicenter of a celebration that showcases the region's agricultural production.
“
"It's a golden opportunity to gain visibility and a showcase to defend our products. I must say that everyone who comes to the fair will enjoy incredible prices. At our stand, we will be selling about 3,000 kilos of potatoes and about 1,000 corn cobs."
During the day, attendees will be able to directly purchase Valsequillo potatoes and other local products, as well as enjoy the preparation of traditional dishes that are part of the municipality's gastronomic identity. The program will also include tastings, raffles, and dynamic activities, as well as a mojo sauce competition and various demonstrations related to the primary sector, such as corn husking or plowing, bringing the public closer to traditional farming practices.
“
"The Potato and Corn Fair is not just tradition; it is a showcase of the effort of our people from the countryside. We invite everyone to discover that true quality is born here, in Valsequillo, the result of artisanal work that deserves all our recognition and support."
Recent heavy rains have affected the land, but the quality of Valsequillo potatoes, in varieties such as Galáctica and Picasso, is maintained thanks to the mineralization of irrigation water from wells and galleries. This year, due to climatic conditions, the Potato and Corn Fair has been separated from the Strawberry Fair, which will be held at the end of May.
“
"Agriculture and life close to the land are hallmarks of Valsequillo. It is a way of understanding life that rewards us with top-quality products like our potatoes and corn."
The Valsequillo City Council reinforces its commitment to local consumption and the promotion of sustainable habits with this event. Approximately 40 stalls will be set up for merchants to offer their products, under the slogan: «Some things are not bought, they are grown».
