Canarian Latin Sail inaugurated its 2026 season this Saturday with the celebration of the Port Authority – Las Palmas Port Foundation Opening Competition. This event, part of the Gran Canaria Cabildo Cup, took place under favorable wind conditions, with an intensity of 13 knots.
The Villa de Teror Munchitos boat was the undisputed star of the day, achieving a remarkable victory with a time of 1:06:42. The vessel maintained its lead from the start, even after a slight grounding near Lady Harimaguada, after passing the Castillo de San Cristóbal buoy, an incident that did not prevent its triumph.

The battle for subsequent positions was intense, with several boats competing closely at the Cardoso, Castillo de San Cristóbal, and Fuente Luminosa buoys. The Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas surprised by climbing from the penultimate position to secure second place with a time of 1:07:00, just 18 seconds behind the winner.
The podium was completed by Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche, which finished with a time of 1:07:53. Other boats such as Viajes Insular Arenales Canaluz and Spar Guerra del Río also engaged in a close battle, separated by just one second.
With this result, the Villa de Teror Munchitos is positioned as the first leader of the Gran Canaria Cabildo Cup, earning one point. The competition will continue this Sunday with the start of the Aguas de Teror Championship, considered the most important event of the boat season.
