The vessel was detected by the ECO CIV radar eight miles from the island. Following the alert, emergency services escorted the boat to the La Restinga pier, where the passengers received initial medical attention.
According to information provided by emergency services, the group consists entirely of men of sub-Saharan origin, coming from countries such as Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Conakry, and Sierra Leone. The occupants, including eight minors, were in apparently stable health after a journey that, according to their accounts, lasted six days from Dakar.
The assistance operation at the port involved the Immediate Response Emergency Team (ERIE) of the Red Cross, the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), the Civil Guard, and the National Police, as well as port surveillance services.
The migrants are scheduled to be transferred to the Temporary Foreigner Attention Center (CATE), located in the town of San Andrés, in the municipality of Valverde. They will remain under police custody and receive assistance from the organization Corazón naranja – Ebrima Sonko before being referred to other resources outside the island.
