Last Monday, the sea off El Hierro presented an infrequent scene with the presence of a humpback whale, also known as a yubarta whale, accompanied by its calf. Images of this event, captured in the Arenas Blancas area, were widely shared on social media.

This sighting has generated excitement, as it is uncommon to witness an adult specimen alongside its calf so close to the Herreño coast. Although the Canary Islands are a prominent location for cetacean observation, the appearance of a humpback whale with its calf is particularly noteworthy due to the impressive size and characteristic behavior of this species.
