The crew of a Portuguese military vessel initially detected the precarious craft. Following the alert, the Salvamento center in Tenerife mobilized several merchant ships in the area to try and gather more information about its whereabouts.
Subsequently, the vessel Guardamar Urania was deployed and continues to comb the area without success so far. The Sasemar 101 aircraft joined these efforts on Monday and has since returned to its base.
