The Arrecife City Council has approved in plenary session the expansion of resources for street cleaning and urban solid waste collection, a measure aimed at adapting the service to the city's growth, which will be operational in the coming weeks.

The measure, approved this Friday, October 30, by the municipal plenary, will allow for the reinforcement of human and material resources and improve response capacity to the current needs of the municipality, which have surpassed the original planning from over a decade ago.
The Councilor for Cleaning, Jacobo Lemes, highlighted the importance of this expansion, stating, "Arrecife has changed a lot since the current service was designed, and we need cleaning and waste collection means to be on par with the city we have today." He added that this expansion is an important step to improve the service provided to residents and address needs that had long highlighted the limitations of available resources.
The original contract, awarded in 2014 for a city of approximately 50,000 inhabitants, has become obsolete due to the municipality's growth and the increase in waste generated. A technical report warns of difficulties in servicing certain streets and the rise in abandoned furniture and bulky items on the street.
The expansion includes the incorporation of personnel (laborer and driver) and specific machinery such as a high-pressure washer, open-box trucks, a street washer, and side and rear loading waste collection vehicles. These resources will enhance cleaning and collection tasks.
This improvement is added to the service currently provided by Urbaser, whose continuity was agreed upon until the finalization of the new contract. The economic proposal includes a monthly increase of 127,393.16 euros, broken down into 21,977.40 euros for street cleaning and 105,415.76 euros for waste collection.
