The Arrecife City Council is moving forward with the processing of an accessible ramp at El Cable beach, a key initiative to enhance inclusivity along the Lanzarote coastline.

This infrastructure, already in the administrative phase, is being managed by the General Directorate of Coasts and Management of the Canarian Maritime Space. The council has reported that the project will be subject to public exhibition in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands in the coming weeks, an essential step to obtain the administrative concession required to execute the works.
The action involves the installation of a structure designed to facilitate access to the sea, adapting to the topography of El Cable beach. This area presents terrain conditions that make swimming difficult, especially for people with reduced mobility. The future walkway will allow access to the water during both low and high tide, thus improving the beach's usability throughout the tidal cycle. The infrastructure will be located near the capital's nautical activities center.
The Arrecife City Council, under the leadership of Mayor Yonathan de León, plans to put the works out to tender during the second half of 2026, once final authorization from Costas is obtained. This project is part of a broader investment plan promoted by the municipal government group for the 2026-2027 period. The concession request was unanimously approved in the municipal plenary session held in November of last year.

"This action is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving accessibility on the municipality's beaches."

In this regard, the council has recently carried out improvements at La Arena beach, next to San José Castle, with an investment close to 500,000 euros. These works also included the renovation of a section of the pedestrian promenade between this fortification and the Los Mármoles area. The objective of these interventions is to ensure that the coastline is more inclusive and accessible for all citizens, regardless of their physical conditions.
Mayor Yonathan de León has linked this project to a broader strategy to position Arrecife bay as a benchmark in the nautical field within the Canary Islands. This planning has been developed in collaboration with the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society, seeking to attract both residents and visitors interested in sea-related activities.
In parallel, the local administration has other relevant projects underway on the maritime front, such as the proposal for the comprehensive transformation of the Theme Park, near El Reducto beach. This project, currently on public exhibition, contemplates an investment close to 10 million euros, reflecting the municipal commitment to the renovation of public spaces and the improvement of urban quality.
