The Arrecife City Council has launched its healthy cooking and nutritional education workshop program for seniors over 65 at the Day Center for the Elderly, an initiative that will run until April 2027.

The program, promoted by the Department of Seniors, combines practical training on balanced nutrition with spaces for social gathering and coexistence. The deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Seniors, Rosmen Quevedo, visited the first sessions to learn about the activity's progress and spend time with the participants.
The initiative aims to offer seniors in the municipality a space to learn practical ways to incorporate healthy eating habits into their daily lives, while also enjoying cooking in company. Councilor Rosmen Quevedo highlighted the positive reception and the value of offering activities that are both useful and foster relationships among participants.
"The beauty of these workshops is that it's not just about learning recipes or knowing which foods are best for us. It's also about conversing and enjoying doing something together. We want our seniors to have activities that bring them positive things and where they feel comfortable," stated Quevedo.
The sessions are eminently practical, allowing attendees to prepare healthy recipes and acquire knowledge on everyday issues such as menu planning, hydration, food preservation, and preparing balanced meals. The activity is led by Leticia González Camacho, a graduate in Geriatric Nutrition, and includes the necessary materials and ingredients.
These workshops are part of the active and healthy aging promotion initiatives driven by the Department of Seniors of the City Council, with the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands through the MARESÍA Program, from the Directorate General of Seniors and Active Participation.
