The socialists of Arrecife issued a statement this Sunday, arguing that the amount invested in the 2026 Carnival does not align with the final outcome of the programming and organization of events. According to the party, this edition has been perceived by "numerous groups and residents" as one of the "worst remembered in the city's history."
“"Never has such a disastrous festival been so expensive."
PSOE Councillor Cristina Duque directly pointed to the management of Mayor Yonathan de León, from the Popular Party, accusing it of "lack of planning, improvisation, and disregard" for the carnival groups. These groups, traditionally the "driving force" behind the celebrations, have reported "constant lies and a lack of coordination from the City Council."
No one understands how more than 1.5 million euros can be spent on a carnival that has been marked by disorganization, logistical problems, and a lack of respect for those who truly sustain this tradition.
The socialist group emphasized that the Arrecife City Council has already spent "29 million euros on festivals" during the current legislative term. They consider this figure "shameful" for a city with "significant needs in public services, infrastructure, and social policies."
