The arrests took place on May 4th, following an investigation that lasted several weeks. The incidents under investigation occurred during the early mornings of March and April, a period during which the now-detained individuals allegedly participated in at least six assaults on commercial premises.
The police investigation determined that the suspects operated at night, concealing their identities and using large stones to break the glass and access doors of the businesses. One establishment, located on Arrecife's promenade, was targeted up to three times by the arrestees.
The repetition of these crimes caused concern among shopkeepers and residents of the central area due to the damage caused to shop windows and entrances. In response to the increase in crime, the National Police implemented a preventive operation that led to the identification of the alleged perpetrators, whose involvement was further supported by the analysis of surveillance camera footage.
After concluding the police proceedings, the detainees were handed over to the competent judicial authority. The National Police have reiterated the importance of citizen collaboration and provided information on how to anonymously submit data through their official website.
