The citizens' group has voiced its frustration over the repeated scheduling of concerts and events, both public and private, which have the authorization or lack of intervention from the Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote. They argue that this dynamic prioritizes leisure over the fundamental right to rest and health for local residents.
The platform notes that the situation has worsened over recent years, citing specific examples such as the Isla Latina festival, which allegedly exceeded permitted decibel limits, and recurring disturbances in Las Palmas Square and the Marina of Arrecife area, where nightlife activity continues until the early hours.
“"It is time to stop seeking easy applause through permanent partying, while hundreds of residents see their health, sleep, and quality of life disrupted."
In addition to large events, the group has highlighted other sources of noise pollution, such as weekly batucada rehearsals in the Valterra neighborhood. Faced with this scenario, those affected question whether the current leisure model is suitable for the city and demand that administrations show greater respect for existing noise pollution regulations.
