The Antigua Sports City in Fuerteventura will feature modern facilities following the award of works for 7 million euros. This priority action aims to align the infrastructure with the sporting development of the municipality and the island.
The UTE Tecopsa-OPC will be responsible for executing the works, which have a deadline of 18 months. The project includes the construction of a football pitch with artificial turf, an athletics track, a new grandstand, multi-sport areas, and auxiliary facilities such as changing rooms and storage areas.
The president of the Fuerteventura Island Council highlighted the coordination between the island departments of Contracting and Infrastructure to drive this sports infrastructure. She emphasized that the project will not only benefit the sporting sector but also contribute to the economic and social development of Fuerteventura through the hosting of high-level competitions.
Luis González, Minister of Contracting and Sports, explained that the project is endorsed by the Superior Sports Council, ensuring homologated facilities. These will be prepared for both the daily use of local athletes and clubs, and for hosting high-level sporting events, thereby strengthening the external projection of the municipality and the Island, in line with the insular strategy eSPORTura25-35.
Also present at the site visit were the Minister of Infrastructure, Blas Acosta, the mayor of Antigua, Juan Cabrera, the Councilor for Urban Planning, David Alberto, and the Councilor for Sports, Alejandro García. All of them underscored the importance of this project, highly anticipated by the municipality's sporting community.
