The Fuerteventura Island Council has participated in the Conference of Presidents to address the regulation of the new Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN), which will have a budget of 1.626 billion euros.

The island institution has emphasized the importance of updating this public investment instrument, in force for a decade, to align it with the current demands of the Canary Islands. The new regulatory framework seeks to simplify administrative procedures and facilitate the reprogramming of strategic projects.
The Island Council has focused on the need to finance critical areas such as public housing and social services. These priorities address the needs identified on the island, where the FDCAN has been key to the development of essential infrastructure such as roads and water supply networks.
The financing model maintains an 80% share for Fuerteventura, a criterion that recognizes the double insularity and allows for greater capacity for action. This flexibility in resource management will enable the island administration to respond more agilely to the social and economic challenges of the local population.
