The program encompasses various artistic disciplines such as music, dance, theater, exhibitions, literature, and conferences focused on Canarian identity. These activities are coordinated by the Department of Culture through its different services, including Cultural Heritage, the Island Library Center, the Juan Ismael Art Center, the Museums of Fuerteventura, and the Archaeological Museum, also with the collaboration of the Government of Canarias.
“"With this program, we celebrate the Canary Islands from what we are: from our identity, traditions, and our way of understanding this land, continuing the work we have been promoting from the Cabildo to reinforce what defines and identifies us."
A spokesperson for the island institution highlighted the importance of "Canarian identity in all its forms," emphasizing that the program not only focuses on tradition but also on modernity, offering proposals for all audiences and giving visibility to Canarian companies, creators, and experts in various fields.
Part of the activities is dedicated to heritage, with initiatives such as the project "El Alma de la Isla" (The Soul of the Island), which proposes theatrical routes to explore Fuerteventura's heritage values, as well as spaces for reflection and debate. Among these, an informative talk on the participatory process for the rehabilitation and use of the Casas de La Florida is included.
From May 18 to 28, traditional dance workshops will be held for the second consecutive year, in collaboration with the A.F. Maxorata in Puerto del Rosario and Gran Tarajal, offering a journey through the typical dances of the islands. The program also incorporates exhibitions at the Juan Ismael Art Center, storytelling from the Island Library Center, and school activities to introduce younger audiences to different elements of Canarian identity.
These educational actions will be carried out through the Museums of Fuerteventura, with visits to the Battle of Cuchillete and Tamasite Interpretation Center, the Atalayita Settlement, and the La Alcogida Ecomuseum, as well as the Archaeological Museum of Fuerteventura, coinciding with International Museum Day on May 18.
The collaboration of the Government of Canarias, through programs such as Somos Patrimonio de Canarias (We Are Heritage of the Canary Islands) or the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development, will allow the inclusion of plays such as Siete Estrellas Verdes (Seven Green Stars) or La Casa de Bernarda Alba (The House of Bernarda Alba), in addition to concerts by groups like Los Sabandeños & Olga Cerpa and Mestisay.
The "Mayo 100% Canarias" program will culminate with the Gran Baile de Taifas (Grand Taifas Dance), to be held on May 29 at the fairgrounds in Puerto del Rosario, in coordination with the capital's city council. This event will feature groups from Fuerteventura and other islands, and will include an exhibition and traditional costume contest. Table reservations for the Baile de Taifas are scheduled for May 11 starting at 5:00 PM.
