The island's president took advantage of the minister's visit to personally deliver this matter, which concerns the society and institutions of Fuerteventura. García emphasized the need for the minister to intercede with the competent authorities of the Ministry of Transport and Mobility.
The agreement, signed on July 20th by the Island Council, the town councils, and the Chamber of Commerce, arises from the unilateral suspension of this strategic service by the State. The president highlighted that, with political will, the maritime transport framework can be adapted to the island's needs.
Lola García noted that the Ministry of Transport and Mobility is currently working on the preliminary study for the new tender, thus considering it the opportune moment to act and adopt a joint position. She expressed confidence that the minister would approach the issue with sensitivity, given its direct impact on Fuerteventura's insular and peripheral economy.
Furthermore, the president announced that the Plenary of the Island Council will approve an institutional declaration this Friday to request the State declare the direct maritime connection as a Public Service Obligation (OSP). The immediate restoration of the stop in Puerto del Rosario will also be requested.
