This feature film, driven by the Canadian company Item 7 and co-produced by the French Noodles Production, anticipates an investment of 1.6 million euros on the island. Filming will span 27 days, taking place almost entirely in Fuerteventura, with locations in the municipalities of La Oliva and Puerto del Rosario. Fasten Films is providing production services on the island.
The plot of Le Sablier is based on the true story of Édith Blais, a Canadian citizen who, along with her Italian boyfriend Luca Tacchetto, was kidnapped by jihadist forces in the Sahara desert. Both remained captive for 450 days before managing to escape in March 2020 and being found by a United Nations patrol in Mali.
“"The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, highlighted the opportunity that hosting productions of this level represents for the island."
During a visit to the film set, the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, emphasized the value of hosting film productions of this magnitude. For her part, Nereida Calero, CEO of the Fuerteventura Film Commission, highlighted the positive impact of these filmings on the local economy and job creation, estimating around 50 hires, including permanent and temporary staff, for Le Sablier on the island.
After her release, Édith Blais documented her experience in the book Le Sablier (The Hourglass), where she recounts how poetry was a fundamental pillar in maintaining her sanity during captivity. This work is the basis for the film now being shot in Fuerteventura.
