The Scientific Council of the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve has proposed the creation of 'Youth Biosphere' (Biosfera Joven), an initiative designed to involve the island's youth in decision-making bodies for natural environment conservation.

During a recent ordinary session held at the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the Scientific Council reviewed ongoing projects for the preservation of the Majorero natural environment. At this meeting, various proposals were approved, including those focused on geological diversity and the cetacean stranding network.
The Councillor for the Biosphere Reserve, Marlene Figueroa, expressed her gratitude for the dedication of the Scientific Council. She highlighted that, in addition to providing a positive assessment of implemented actions, the body continues to offer its support for future initiatives in key areas such as geodiversity and assistance for stranded cetaceans.

"The Scientific Council has not only made a positive assessment of the projects developed so far, but continues to provide us with support for upcoming actions focused on areas such as geological diversity or the cetacean stranding network, among others."

The Scientific Council is composed of representatives from the scientific field, with the participation on this occasion of academic institutions such as the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Also present were the Technological Institute of Canarias (ITC), the Canarian Institute of Agrarian Experimentation (ICIA), the Ecoaqua institute, and the University Institute of Animal Health and Food Safety (IUSA).
The 'Youth Biosphere' initiative was particularly emphasized by the Scientific Council, as it will broaden the participation of the island's young people, offering them the opportunity to integrate into decision-making processes related to the management and conservation of the Biosphere Reserve.
