The session, titled ‘Bells with History: Sounds of the Majorero Past’, is part of the ‘Encounters with Heritage’ series and will take place at 5:30 PM. The event will feature Gustavo A. Trujillo Yáñez and Samuel Brito Hernández, who will explore the significance of bells as part of the Majorero cultural heritage.
Rayco León, Minister of Cultural Heritage, highlighted the importance of these encounters for «continuing to discover elements of our heritage that are part of Fuerteventura's history and daily life». He added that «knowing and transmitting these traditions is also a way to contribute to their conservation and ensure they remain part of our identity».
The colloquium will delve into the historical function of bells as a means of collective communication. Their sounds not only announced events or marked key moments but also served to summon the population, becoming an expression linked to the memory and identity of communities.
This edition of ‘Encounters with Heritage’ focuses on the bells and the traditions associated with them, aiming to promote their knowledge, preservation, and transmission as a valuable cultural legacy of Fuerteventura.
