The Cabildo de Fuerteventura hosted an open day to showcase the Insular Therapeutic Pool, a service now active at the Insular Disability Care Center. This initiative allowed families, users, caregivers, and third-sector entities to gain firsthand insight into the facilities and operations of this valuable resource.
In its initial phase, the service is aimed at users from socio-health centers for dependency and disability under the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. The insular corporation has announced plans for a second phase, which will gradually incorporate social organizations linked to disability care on the island, as well as other groups and specialized classrooms.
“"This space represents a fundamental advance in the island's socio-health care."
The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, highlighted the launch of this resource, pointing out the direct benefits it already offers for the physical and emotional well-being of its users. García emphasized that while the service initially focuses on Cabildo-dependent centers, the goal is to consolidate it for progressive expansion. Meanwhile, the Social Action Councilor, Víctor Alonso, stated that the pool addresses a significant demand across the island, describing it as a source of pride.
The pool's infrastructure, announced in 2011 as part of the Insular Disability Center, faced several delays. Construction was tendered in 2017, and the facility was received in 2019, but technical issues postponed its opening until the first quarter of 2026, when it finally began serving its first users.
The Insular Therapeutic Pool is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including a coordinator, a senior technician in physical and sports activity animation, two activity monitors, auxiliary cleaning staff, and administrative support. Its equipment features a hydraulic lift for people with reduced mobility, air bubble beds, foot massagers, rotating jets, a Bali waterfall, cervical massager, an access ramp with handrails, a sauna, and a Turkish bath, in addition to other hydrotherapy elements.
