The distinction values Machín's deep connection with Fuerteventura and its cultural life, using words, performance, and artistic creation to tell stories and highlight social realities. The award ceremony will take place on Friday, October 16, at 8:00 PM, as part of the Fuerteventura Book Fair.
Lorenza Machín, a renowned writer, poet, actress, and social activist, has participated in various plays, short films, and feature films, in addition to her prolific literary work. Her efforts have particularly focused on defending women's rights and promoting diversity.
Among her publications, some edited by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura itself, are works such as El jardincillo encantado (2012), Tres nanas y Anarán (2012), Aurora Ocaso (2017), and Caminando. Antología (2021), which are part of the island's literary heritage and are held in the Biblioteca de Canarias.
The President of the Island Council, Lola García, and the Minister of Culture, Rayco León, emphasized the importance of recognizing a career that is part of Fuerteventura's cultural memory, viewing culture as a space for expression, thought, and representation.
Rayco León highlighted that the Alexis Ravelo Award honors those who contribute to integrating books, reading, and culture into society, a spirit that Lorenza Machín perfectly embodies.
Machín's connection with the Fuerteventura Book Fair dates back years, including her participation in roundtables like ‘Writing in Fuerteventura’ in 2022 and as a narrator in 2015. This award not only recognizes her individual career but also her contribution to the island's cultural construction.
