The National Police have identified a group of five minors as alleged perpetrators of an assault on another minor on the island of Fuerteventura and for the subsequent dissemination of images of the events through instant messaging applications and social networks.
The investigation began after a report filed by the victim's family, who informed the National Police about an assault that occurred in a public place, as reported by the Superior Headquarters of the Police of the Canary Islands.
As a consequence of the events, the assaulted minor suffered minor injuries requiring medical attention.
Investigations carried out by officers determined that several of the alleged involved parties had traveled from another municipality to the vicinity of the victim's home. Subsequently, the minor was approached in a public place by a group of young people.
According to the inquiries and audiovisual material analyzed by the agents, the victim was allegedly subjected to a physical assault while other members of the group actively participated in the events or contributed to the generated atmosphere of intimidation. One of those present recorded the sequence with a mobile device.
The images were subsequently disseminated through various instant messaging groups, expanding the reach of what happened and increasing the harm suffered by the victim, the Police highlighted.
In addition to physical injuries, the investigation has revealed the significant emotional impact resulting from the events. The minor experienced fear and anxiety following the assault, a circumstance that affected their daily life and social relationships.
Once the police proceedings were completed, the corresponding report has been sent to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Las Palmas, as indications of possible crimes of injury, against privacy, and against moral integrity have been identified.
The National Police reminds that recording and disseminating images of assaults, especially when they involve minors, can constitute a criminal offense with significant legal consequences for those responsible. They also emphasize the importance of immediately reporting any episode of violence, intimidation, or harassment, both in person and digitally, to ensure the protection of victims and prevent the normalization of such behaviors.
