Applications for Disability and Dependency in the non-capital islands of the Canary Islands are being resolved within the legal period of six months, which the Ministry of Social Welfare interprets as a zero waiting list.
A representative of the Government of the Canary Islands participated in Fuerteventura in a conference on 'Social Services in the Canary Islands. Current situation and future perspectives,' attended by about fifty professionals from the sector. During the event, it was highlighted that Fuerteventura and other non-capital islands have managed to eliminate waiting lists for Disability and Dependency services.
“
"It no longer has waiting lists for Disability or Dependency, thanks to the various actions carried out to modernize and adapt services to the needs of citizens in the 21st century."
This situation is attributed to the implemented actions to modernize and adapt services to the current needs of citizens. The resolution of applications within the legal period of six months is a key indicator of this improvement.
Furthermore, it was recalled that the first multisectoral diagnosis of Social Services in the Canary Islands was carried out in collaboration with the University of La Laguna, gathering assessments from nearly a thousand people, including users, professionals, and experts. This diagnosis, recently approved by the Governing Council, is a fundamental step for the Strategic Plan for Social Services of the Canary Islands.
“
"This is the first time that the Canary Islands has such a tool, a milestone that will allow us to get closer to the reality of the Public Social Services System throughout the autonomous territory."
An insular representative for Social Action thanked the initiative to bring this debate to Fuerteventura and acknowledged the efforts of all professionals and entities working in the social field. The need to improve citizen care through a more integrated and global system was emphasized, using tools such as artificial intelligence and robotics to reduce bureaucracy and response times.
