The Cabildo of Fuerteventura continues to implement the 'Memoria Viva 2025' employment plan, focused on the restoration of heritage and historical sites on the island. The Minister of Human Resources, Nuria Cabrera, and the mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, supervised the work at the windmills in Villaverde. They were accompanied by the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Rayco León, project managers, and the team of workers.
The project, lasting one year and involving a team of 17 workers, aims to condition and rehabilitate public heritage sites. It seeks to preserve the memory and identity of Fuerteventura, promote local employment, boost cultural tourism, and dignify the island's historical heritage.
Minister Nuria Cabrera highlighted that the project combines job creation opportunities with heritage conservation, acting on sites of great historical value and identity for the island. Mayor Isaí Blanco thanked the coordination between administrations to restore valuable historical and heritage infrastructure in La Oliva.
The Minister of Cultural Heritage, Rayco León, pointed out the importance of continuous action for heritage conservation, and how projects like 'Memoria Viva' allow intervention in various locations on the island to ensure their maintenance and enhancement.
At the windmills of Villaverde, the crew has carried out interior and exterior cleaning, painting, and conservation work on wooden elements and doors, contributing to the maintenance of this representative ethnographic complex in the municipality of La Oliva.
The 'Memoria Viva 2025' project is co-financed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands, through resources from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN), with an investment of 472,007.63 euros in labor costs.
Since its launch, the project has carried out conservation and conditioning work in various heritage sites on the island. Among the completed works are those carried out at the Casa del Arrendatario in Cofete, in Pájara (waterproofing, roof repairs, interior and exterior painting, carpentry restoration, and drainage system conditioning), and the rehabilitation of the Casillas del Ángel wrestling ring in Puerto del Rosario (cleaning, restoration of stands, and painting).
Currently, work continues at the Casa Alta de Tindaya, in the municipality of La Oliva, and at the windmill in Valles de Ortega, in Antigua, with cleaning, restoration of carpentry and wooden elements, as well as conservation and painting.
