A serval mother and her cub have been successfully rescued at Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura, in La Lajita, Pájara, following a complex veterinary intervention that included an emergency C-section.

The veterinary team at Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura has achieved a significant milestone by saving the lives of a serval cub and its mother. The highly complex intervention required an emergency C-section for the female, who had been a victim of illegal pet trade.
The cub, approximately two weeks old, is recovering favorably in an incubator under constant 24-hour intensive care. Simultaneously, a gradual process has begun to reintroduce it to its mother, who is also recovering from the surgery.

The female, a victim of illegal pet trade, was rescued in November 2025 as part of an international operation coordinated by the National Police, with the collaboration of Interpol, the DEA, and the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard.

The female arrived at the center after being rescued in November 2025 in an international operation involving the National Police, Interpol, the DEA, and the Seprona of the Civil Guard. Initially under the custody of the Neotrópico Foundation, she was transferred to Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura for specialized care.
Upon arrival, the serval exhibited a slight limp that progressively worsened, revealing a femur fracture. Her pregnancy further complicated the situation, adding considerable risk to the surgical intervention. The veterinary team meticulously planned the operation, considering the risks of anesthesia for the cub and the possibility of premature birth.
Ultimately, it was decided to perform a C-section during the same trauma surgery to stabilize the fracture with a plate. This combined procedure demanded precise planning, clinical expertise, and rigorous technical execution, with external support from the veterinary clinic VETS Costa Calma.
