The Fuerteventura Island Council has initiated the tendering process for the operational launch of this space, which aims to showcase the island's geological formation, arid landscape, and biodiversity. The viewpoint, located at 669 meters altitude within the Betancuria Rural Park, had suffered significant deterioration due to its prolonged closure.
One of the key innovations in the restoration project is the addition of a hanging balcony offering an exceptional panorama of the plains, volcanoes, and the characteristic arid landscape of the central and northern parts of the island.
Inaugurated in the mid-1990s, the two-story building has hosted various environmental and cultural projects throughout its history, including a restaurant, a cafeteria, the Betancuria Rural Park Interpretation Center, a space dedicated to the Biosphere Reserve, and numerous exhibitions. However, these initiatives lacked continuity and a clear objective.
The current renovation focuses on ensuring the long-term preservation of the building. Works include comprehensive repairs to pavements, the entrance porch, the roof, cladding, and interior and exterior carpentry, as well as improving layout, accessibility, and expanding the cafeteria area with a new terrace.
The tender project, with a base budget of 345,382.54 euros, encompasses the design and development of museological and museographical content, production and installation of interactive and audiovisual exhibits, and equipping the cafeteria area. The goal is to transform the viewpoint into a key resource for understanding and appreciating Fuerteventura's landscape, nature, and heritage.
The content will cover aspects such as Fuerteventura's geological formation, arid landscape, biodiversity, and natural processes, incorporating an immersive space for a sensory and participatory experience.
