The film La Lucha, entirely shot in Fuerteventura, has garnered a dozen awards at film festivals worldwide, establishing itself as the most awarded Majorero production.

The feature film La Lucha has been honored with three awards at the XXVII Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI). These include the Special Jury Prize in the international competition, the award for Best Art Direction, and the Signis award. This success makes the production the film shot on the island with the highest number of national and international distinctions.
The Canarian filmmaker, responsible for the work, collected the awards on Saturday, April 25, in the Argentine capital. La Lucha was the only Spanish film to participate in the international competition of this prestigious festival. In addition to these recognitions, two new awards were obtained last week at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival: the Richard Leacock Award for best feature film and the CIMA Award from the Canarias Cinema section for the editor.

"These types of international recognitions are very important for the island, and in the case of La Lucha, it represents double pride: on the one hand, we promote our settings, our landscapes, our light, and the climate, and on the other hand, the Majorero culture and identity are also promoted with something as uniquely ours as Canarian wrestling."

The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and a councilor from the Fuerteventura Film Commission have congratulated the film's team, emphasizing the importance of these productions for promoting Majorero culture and identity. The filming of La Lucha involved over 300 local extras and opted to work with real wrestlers, which entailed a casting process to find suitable performers.
Since its premiere at the San Sebastián Film Festival in September 2025, the film has traveled to festivals worldwide. It has received honorable mentions at the São Paulo International Film Festival (Brazil), the award for Best Music at the Cinespaña Toulouse Festival (France), and the award for best film and the young jury award at the Efebo d'Oro Film Festival in Palermo (Italy). It was also honored at the Punta del Este International Film Festival (Uruguay) with awards for Best Director in the Ibero-American Fiction Competition and from the Uruguayan Film Critics Association (ACCU) as Best Film. Additionally, it has been selected for presentation at film festivals in Thessaloniki (Greece), Vancouver (Canada), FIFIB Festival International du Film Indépendant de Bordeaux (France), and Alice nella Città (Italy).
The production of La Lucha is an international co-production led by El Viaje Films, with financial support from entities such as MEDIA (Creative Europe sub-program), the ICAA (Ministry of Culture), Ibermedia, the Government of the Canary Islands, Promotur, the Cabildo de Tenerife, and Televisión Canaria, with associated production by Macaronesia Films.
