The Fuerteventura Health Services Management has presented the work plan to develop the Functional Plan and Space Program for the General Hospital, key to defining the center's future needs.

The Health Services Management of Fuerteventura, attached to the Ministry of Health, has initiated the work for the development of the Functional Plan and Space Program for the General Hospital. These documents are a key phase to define the center's future needs and advance the island's new Health Infrastructure Master Plan, with a planning horizon of the next two decades.
The contract for this service, awarded on September 15 and formalized on October 21, amounts to 128,400 euros (including IGIC) and has an execution period of four months. An international consultancy specialized in healthcare facility planning will be responsible for the analyses and technical visits.
The project considers the hospital's evolution, inaugurated in 1982 with 14,000 m² and expanded to the current 52,000 m², to serve over 130,000 inhabitants in 2026. The study will analyze whether the current space distribution meets present and future needs, aiming for more efficient facility use.
The planning will also take into account the future launch of the La Lajita Specialty Care Center (CAE) in the municipality of Pájara, to coordinate the distribution of consultations and specialized activities across the island.
The objective is to establish an orderly and realistic planning of health infrastructures, adapted to population and healthcare activity evolution, with the participation of the center's professionals.
