The Guardia Civil detected the vessel by radar about 10 nautical miles (18.5 kilometers) south of the island. Following the alert, Salvamento Marítimo resources were mobilized to locate the boat.
Ultimately, a state society helicopter, Helimer 205, spotted the cayuco and provided its exact position. Subsequently, the Guardamar Urania carried out the rescue of the 135 people on board.
The provisional assessment indicates that among the occupants, all of Sub-Saharan origin, there are nine women and one possible minor.
The rescued individuals were transferred to the Arguineguín pier, in the south of Gran Canaria, where the disembarkation concluded around 03:15 local time.
