Beyond the famous stars, the Michelin Guide includes the Bib Gourmand distinction, created in 1997, for establishments that excel in offering high-quality culinary proposals at accessible prices. This category has gained popularity among those seeking gastronomic experiences without the high costs associated with luxury restaurants.
The guide's inspectors note that there is no single formula for obtaining this distinction, but Bib Gourmand restaurants typically share a simpler cooking style, focusing on ingredient quality and diner satisfaction without extravagance.
“"Although the economic threshold varies slightly from one country to another depending on the cost of living, inspectors apply the same principle worldwide: excellent value for money."
In the Canary Islands archipelago, a total of eleven restaurants have been awarded the Bib Gourmand. Of these, only two are located in the province of Las Palmas, and only one on the island of Gran Canaria, while the majority are concentrated in Tenerife and La Palma.
The establishment in Gran Canaria, located near Las Alcaravaneras beach, is praised for its ability to combine tradition and innovation, enhancing local products. Recommended dishes include Canarian Ceviche, Carajacas, and Huevos moles with gofio.
The other restaurant in the province of Las Palmas with this distinction is located in Famara, Lanzarote. This venue, designed by a renowned artist, offers stunning views of Famara beach and the island of La Graciosa, standing out for its local fish, seafood, and rice dishes.
