The Education Department of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria has decided to extend the maximum resolution period for its scholarship call for post-compulsory studies by an additional three months. Initially set at six months, this period is being extended for awarding grants aimed at undergraduate, postgraduate, and artistic studies for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The call, endowed with 875,000 euros, is managed this year by the University Foundation of Las Palmas (FULP), rather than directly by the Cabildo's area. The delay in the publication of the final resolution of scholarships by the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Universities, expected on August 3rd, is the primary reason for this extension.
This situation prevents the issuance of the provisional resolution for the Cabildo's scholarships, as it is necessary to await the Canary Islands Government's resolution to verify one of the exclusion criteria: having obtained any other scholarships, grants, or subsidies for the same purposes and course, whether from the Ministry of Education or the Canary Islands Government itself.
Consequently, the resolution and payment of these scholarships for post-compulsory studies are not expected to occur before the start of the next academic year, 2026-2027. During the application period, which took place from February 26th to March 25th, 1,812 applications were received, generating a total of 2,800 files, representing a 21% increase compared to the previous year.
The budget allocated by the Cabildo for this scholarship call has seen an increase of 75,000 euros compared to the previous one, and 375,000 euros (46%) since 2019, when the allocation was 500,000 euros. These scholarships are aimed at low-income resident youth and primarily seek to cover tuition and transportation costs, with the total aid potentially reaching up to 3,000 euros.
