The Canarian Health Service has deployed an expanded network of mobile units and fixed collection points across the archipelago to encourage regular blood donation.

The General Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy emphasizes the need to maintain a constant flow of donations, recommending that citizens participate at least twice a year. This effort is vital to ensure the supply of blood products for surgical procedures, cancer treatments, transplants, and emergency situations.
Since blood components cannot be artificially manufactured, altruistic public collaboration is the only way to ensure availability. In Gran Canaria, collection points include locations such as Las Arenas Shopping Center, the Jesús Arencibia Cultural Space in Tamaraceite, and the area near the Gran Canaria Arena.
In addition to mobile units, public hospitals maintain their fixed points. In the capital, the General Directorate of Hemodonation headquarters on Alfonso XIII street continues to receive donors from Monday to Friday, while the Insular, Materno Infantil, and Dr. Negrín hospitals also have specific extraction schedules.
To be a donor, one must be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh over 50 kilos, and be in good general health. Interested individuals can find detailed information or resolve queries through the efectodonacion.com website or by calling the toll-free number 900 234 061.
