The decision is based on information provided by the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, activating the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena Risks (PEFMA).
The alert covers the peaks of Gran Canaria, as well as its eastern, southern, and western slopes, and the entire island of Fuerteventura. In the rest of the autonomous community, the pre-alert for maximum temperatures has been concluded.
A warm episode is expected with temperatures that could reach and exceed 34ºC in large areas of Gran Canaria, reaching up to 37ºC in the midlands and peaks of the southern half. In Fuerteventura, the heat will be concentrated in the southern half, with maximums above 34ºC in inland areas and up to 36ºC in more isolated spots.
The Directorate General of Emergencies urges the public to follow self-protection advice to cope with these weather conditions.
