The festive events, organized by the Camino de la Madera Neighborhood Association in collaboration with the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council, began on Monday and offer a diverse agenda including workshops, music performances, a zanga tournament, and the traditional pilgrimage.
This Wednesday, starting at 6:30 PM, a snack with churros and chocolate will be offered, followed by a music performance by Nueva Imagen at 9:00 PM. On Thursday, from 6:30 PM, there will be workshops and exhibitions of the traditional 'juego del palo' and 'salto del pastor', culminating the evening with the Noche del Pueblo (Town Night) and a paella at 8:00 PM.
On Friday, September 11th, music performances will be provided by HD Music and Los Brillantes starting at 10:00 PM. Saturday will feature the Zanga Tournament at 10:00 AM, followed by the Pilgrimage at 6:00 PM and a night music event with Ariel y Acuarela at 10:00 PM.
The festivals will conclude on Sunday, September 13th, at 2:30 PM with the anticipated Water Festival, accompanied by the Dragon.
The Councilor for Festivals, Arminda Santana, encouraged residents to participate, assuring that "every year in La Orilla, a great atmosphere at the festivals is guaranteed."
The devotion to the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre in La Orilla Baja de Sardina del Sur is strongly linked to the Cuban community in Gran Canaria. Aida de Varona, who arrived from Cuba in 1972, collaborated with other residents in the construction of the Orilla Baja church, organizing raffles and fairs to raise funds.
