The Doctor Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria has outlined its strategy for the coming years, with a plan extending to 2029 that aims to strengthen patient care through advanced technology and improved key infrastructures.

The hospital has presented its 2026-2029 Strategic Plan, a document that establishes the arrival of proton therapy and the expansion of the Emergency Department as fundamental pillars. This plan represents the hospital's fifth planning cycle and has been developed with the collaboration of professionals from various areas, including medical staff, nursing, management, quality, teaching, and research, as reported by sources from the Ministry of Health.
One of the most ambitious goals is the construction of a new oncology building that will house proton therapy and a cyclotron. This cutting-edge technology will enable cancer treatments with superior precision, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. The implementation of proton therapy will position the hospital at the forefront of oncology in Spain, offering improved therapeutic options for patients in the archipelago.
Another crucial challenge is the expansion of the Emergency Department, an essential measure to address the increase in healthcare demand. The purpose is to optimize space, refine care circuits, and reduce waiting times, thereby strengthening the hospital's response capacity in critical situations.

"The plan maintains as its main focus quality, efficient healthcare coordinated with Primary Care, with the patient at the center of all decisions."

In addition to these initiatives, the strategic plan promotes greater care agility, patient safety, continuous improvement in management, the fostering of teaching and research, a strong commitment to society, and forward-looking planning. The document includes a detailed analysis of the healthcare environment and population needs, along with an internal evaluation of progress made in recent years.
With this roadmap until 2029, the Doctor Negrín Hospital is preparing for a phase of technological innovation and optimized care, with two clear priorities: providing more advanced cancer treatments and responding more effectively to health emergencies.
