These courses, held in September and October, cover essential areas such as languages, written and graphic expression, physics, basic and applied mathematics, and chemistry. The initiative, which began in the 1999/2000 academic year, aims to improve student capabilities, aligning with the training needs identified in the PISA Report.
A total of 233 students have enrolled this year, a figure reflecting the consolidation of this training as a valuable resource for those beginning their university studies at ULPGC. Demand has been particularly high for Mathematics, leading to an expansion of available places, with three groups created for the "Mathematics for Economics and Business" course.
Each course lasts 30 hours and costs approximately 50 euros. Participants will earn ECTS credits, which can be validated towards elective subjects in their degree programs.
The track record of the "Fórmate en…" courses, previously known as “Knowledge Harmonization Courses,” underscores the ULPGC's institutional commitment to leveling basic competencies. The PISA Report, produced by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has recurrently highlighted foundational training gaps in secondary students, especially in mathematics and science, posing a challenge to ensure a successful transition to higher education.
ULPGC addresses this challenge with the "Fórmate en…" courses, offering a flexible and tailored solution to facilitate the academic success of new students.
