The recruitment drive, part of the 2024 Public Employment Offer, aims to address upcoming retirements and enhance the operational capacity of fire stations across the island. The organization stated that the process is proceeding according to the established schedule, which includes the examination phases and mandatory training.
The selection process faced legal challenges from temporary staff seeking automatic permanent status. However, courts have rejected most of these claims, ruling that European and local jurisprudence does not mandate automatic conversion to permanent civil servant status, emphasizing that public access must adhere to constitutional principles of equality, merit, and capability.
Additionally, the courts denied a request for precautionary measures to suspend the selection. Consequently, the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium continues its efforts to bolster public emergency services throughout the island.
