Youth cycling from Gran Canaria continues to show its potential. The Gran Canaria Bike Team has delivered an outstanding performance at the prestigious V Challenge Vuelta al Besaya Cadete, one of the most important events on the national youth cycling calendar, which brought together over 150 riders from 32 teams across Spain.
The island team began the competition by securing an excellent third position in the team time trial in Torrelavega, finishing just four seconds behind the victory. This result highlights the collective strength of a team capable of competing at the highest level against the best youth academies in the country.
Individually, the performance was even more brilliant. Néstor Herrera reached the final podium of the Challenge with a magnificent third position in the general classification, while Pablo Álvarez finished fourth, both just four seconds behind the winner. Furthermore, Álvarez achieved a notable second place in the first-year cadet classification, confirming the immense potential of the island's youth talent.
Herrera also excelled in the mountain classification, sharing the final lead in this category in a race marked by its demanding nature and high competitive level, an added merit considering that Spanish cycling has been a global benchmark in road cycling for many years.
Alongside them, Ayose Robaina, Eloy Marza, and Óscar Darías contributed to the excellent collective performance of a squad that proudly represents Gran Canaria in every competition.
Behind these results lies the work of Yojan Reyes, the Sports Director of this entirely Canarian project, which has an ambitious and exciting roadmap: to train riders capable of reaching professionalism and, one day, to turn the Gran Canaria Bike Team into a professional structure present in major international cycling tours.
