The volleyball team Guaguas, after winning their fifth Superliga in six years, has received the traditional tribute from Canarian public institutions. The delegation, led by its president Juan Ruiz, along with directors, the squad, and coaching staff, was welcomed at the Government Presidency by President Fernando Clavijo and Sports Counselor Poli Suárez. Subsequently, they visited the Casa Palacio to be honored by the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, and Sports Counselor Aridany Romero.
These distinctions recognize the sporting achievement of the Gran Canarian team, which has established itself as the dominant force in national men's volleyball since 2020 and has also made its mark in the European Champions League. The squad celebrates another title added to their record, maintaining their league supremacy.
Player Osmany Juantorena, considered a key figure, expressed his emotion at winning another title, especially after recovering from shoulder surgery. He highlighted the difficulty of the Spanish league and the sacrifice behind every victory, calling his first Spanish Superliga a achievement of great value. Juantorena indicated openness to continuing with the team next season, though he requested time to decide after an intense campaign.
For his part, player Io de Amo emphasized the work of the coaching staff and the seriousness of the sports project led by Juan Ruiz and Sergio Miguel Camarero, which is focused on European competition. He acknowledged a "small scare" in Almería during the playoffs but stated that the team knew how to recover to secure the title with solid performances.
