Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche emerged victorious in the Day of Canarias Contest, a demanding regatta held in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria under strong north winds.

The bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria hosted the traditional Day of Canarias Contest this Saturday, the second scoring event for the Gran Canaria Cabildo Cup. The regatta, characterized by a strong north wind of 16 knots, proved to be visually striking and challenging for the vessels.
The boat Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche proved to be the fastest, finishing with a time of 1:08:19 and securing a crucial victory in the Cup's standings. The vessel, helmed by Óliver Bravo de Laguna, sailed a very solid race.
Second place went to Chacalote Comercial Sanrob, skippered by Kevin Rosales, who continues to show a strong start to the season with a time of 1:09:42. Completing the podium was Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas, helmed by Juanjo Díaz, with a time of 1:10:22, demonstrating the progression of its young crew.
The previous leader of the Cup, Villa de Teror Munchitos, skippered by Gustavo del Castillo Jr, crossed the finish line in fourth place (1:10:31), just nine seconds behind the third-place finisher, and remains in a privileged position.
Other boats such as Spar Guerra del Río (1:11:42), Viajes Insular Arenales Canaluz (1:12:29), Unión San Cristóbal Restaurante Los Botes (1:13:54), and Villa de Agüimes Ybarra (1:14:17), the latter affected by a penalty, completed the rankings.
The choice of sails measuring just twelve meters by some boats, including Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche and Disa Roque Nublo ULPGC, highlighted the wind's intensity. The regatta also saw moments of tension at the first buoy, with a maneuver impacting Villa de Agüimes Ybarra.
Following this event, the provisional standings for the Gran Canaria Cabildo Cup remain very open. Villa de Teror Munchitos is still a strong contender, but the victory of Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche and the consistency of Chacalote and Portuarios have tightened the race for the title.
The next event will be on June 20th with the Contest Fiestas Fundacionales de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the fleet will aim to score more points.
