The island team has achieved a milestone for Canarian adapted sports, consolidating its progress after being champions of Spain in the Habilidades category the previous year. This second consecutive final in a Spanish Championship demonstrates the growth of the club's sports and social project, positioning Canarias among the national leaders in inclusive sports.
Nine teams from various autonomous communities participated in the competition, with Interisleta Gran Canaria being the sole representative from the Canary Islands. The team began its journey on Friday the 29th with a resounding victory against Adisli from Madrid (54-4), showcasing strong defense and collective play. The group stage continued on Saturday with a win against No Hay Límites from Yecla (22-19), securing the group's top position and a spot in the semifinals.
In the semi-final, the Gran Canaria team faced Aspajumide from Murcia, achieving a well-deserved victory by 27-14. The final was played against Atlético Fortius, also from the Region of Murcia. The match was highly contested and thrilling until the end, with Interisleta Gran Canaria creating more scoring opportunities, but the final score was a close 14-13 in favor of the Murcian team.
Despite the defeat in the final, the championship's outcome is extraordinary. The runner-up title and promotion to Primera Adaptada represent a historic achievement for adapted basketball in the Canary Islands, especially considering the differences in competitive regularity compared to other autonomous communities. The club has highlighted the support received from entities, institutions, and companies such as Universidad Fernando Pessoa Canarias, Canaluz, Fundación Puertos de Las Palmas, Fundación CD Tenerife, Spar Gran Canaria, the Canary Islands Government, and the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, among others.
