The Department of Ciudad de Mar of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has carried out an intensive cleaning operation in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, removing a total of five tons of algae in just three days.
The work focused on La Puntilla beach and the callaos beach, near the Castillo de San Pedro. The accumulation of these macroalgae necessitated the activation of a special sustainable management operation.
The main objective of this action is to prevent the decomposition of the algae, particularly in areas near the fishing port and the Avenida Marítima, from causing health problems for the neighborhood's residents and passersby.
The beach and coastline cleaning and maintenance service, managed by FCC, utilized both manual tools and specific machinery to remove the five tons of organic matter.
