The Gran Canaria Island Council has announced an investment of 800,000 euros to hire 21 unemployed individuals, one per municipality, to strengthen the island's library services throughout 2026.

The initiative, managed by the Department of Employment and Local Development, aims to improve user service and the daily operations of these educational and cultural centers. The program will run from January to December 2026, combining job creation with the strengthening of local public services.
The professional profile required for these positions is that of an administrative assistant or clerk. Priority will be given to candidates with previous experience in the library sector or those showing a specific interest in the cultural and educational field.

"Libraries are much more than spaces for reading, as they act as places for meeting, learning, access to information, and social inclusion."
