Spanish youth cycling has witnessed the strength of the Gran Canaria Bike Team at the recent XIII Txuma. The challenging roads of Leioa, Berango, and Erandio provided the stage for the island team to demonstrate their prowess, culminating in a memorable weekend.
The most outstanding individual performance came from Pablo Álvarez, originally from Agüimes. Álvarez delivered a brilliant performance throughout the event, staying among the leaders and showing great resilience. He finished in a commendable 4th position overall, just 16 seconds behind the winner, and clinched the title in the first-year cadet classification, highlighting his promising future.
Another key rider was Néstor Herrera, whose consistency saw him achieve 11th place in the final general classification. Herrera played a crucial role in the team's strategy, proving to be an essential component of the GCBT's dynamics.
The XIII Txuma clearly showed that the Gran Canaria Bike Team competes as a united and ambitious unit. In the third and final stage in Erandio, the team executed a tactical masterclass, earning them the stage victory and solidifying their third-place finish in the overall team standings.
GCBT no longer travels to the Peninsula just to learn. They travel to compete, to win stages, and to reach the podium.
The efforts of Ayose Robaina, Asier Álvarez, and Álvaro Gómez were vital in the team's work of wearing down opponents and providing support, adding competitive depth. Their contributions, though not always reflected in individual rankings, were decisive for the collective success.
The team displayed maturity, character, and a remarkable competitive spirit. They navigated critical moments with composure and conveyed the conviction that they could challenge any rival. The message from this Txuma is unequivocal: the GCBT aims to compete and win on the mainland, elevating Canarian cycling.
