This initiative, driven by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through its sports body, aims to strengthen grassroots women's sports and combat the abandonment of sports practice during adolescence. According to data from the Spanish Government, the average age at which young women stop playing sports is around 14 years.

The subsidy program, now in its second consecutive year, has benefited 243 sports clubs in Gran Canaria. These aids have resulted in an economic increase per license, with increments of 40 euros for the youth category, 35 euros for cadets, 25 euros for infants, and 20 euros for alevín and benjamín categories.
Among the entities that have received the most support are prominent clubs such as Club Deportivo Heidelberg, with 6,755 euros, the Asociación de Jóvenes Deportistas de Arinaga, with 6,300 euros, and the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, with 3,685 euros. Other clubs like Judo Club Akari and Club Deportivo Godan have also received 2,490 euros each, reflecting the diversity of disciplines covered, which include handball, hockey, chess, karate, swimming, gymnastics, and judo.
The head of the island's sports body emphasized the institutional effort, noting that the Island Sports Institute is the public administration that allocates the most resources to teams across all the Canary Islands. With this contribution, the Sports area now exceeds 3.8 million euros disbursed to cover expenses derived from participation in sports competitions, both collective and individual, from benjamín to youth categories.
