Surveillance in high-traffic areas has led to consistent enforcement activity. During the previous year, 151 files were recorded against foreign visitors, with the vast majority already notified and settled. Regarding the current year, the institution has 280 environmental infractions under processing, 75 of which involve foreign nationals.
The areas with the highest number of interventions are the Maspalomas Dunes Special Natural Reserve and the Nublo Rural Park. According to the island corporation, the frequency of these actions is directly related to the high number of visitors these locations receive throughout the year.
“"The preservation of our environment is a matter that must be integrated into the philosophy of every person who enjoys our landscapes, both those who reside here and those who visit us."
To improve management, the Council has reinforced surveillance and conservation efforts. Recent measures include the development of the Natural Resources Management Plan for the Maspalomas Dunes, aiming to balance tourism with the protection of 404 hectares. Additionally, since February 2025, a regulation plan has been in place at the Roque Nublo Natural Monument to control access and reduce overcrowding.
