The island institution has launched the tender process for the comprehensive reform of the Gran Canaria Stadium, aiming to turn it into a top-tier sports landmark. According to the sports department, preliminary demolition work is already at an advanced stage, with main construction scheduled to begin this year.
The renovation will be carried out in phases to minimize disruption for Unión Deportiva Las Palmas fans. The first stage will focus on the grandstand area, allowing sporting activity to continue while the facilities are modernized to meet international standards.
“"The necessary efforts will be made for Gran Canaria to return to the ACB as soon as possible."
Regarding basketball, the organization is working on a new sports project following the recent relegation. The strategy focuses on building a competitive squad and finding new technical leadership, maintaining discretion in negotiations to ensure the club's stability.
In addition to these actions, the Council continues with the construction of the Insular Sports Center, a facility designed to host over 3,500 users and boost grassroots sports on the island, strengthening Gran Canaria's public facility network.
