The Department of Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria is organizing the XXXIII edition of the Official Cheese Competition of Gran Canaria, which will be held on April 22 and 23 at Infecar, with the aim of promoting local products.

This annual competition focuses on recognizing, promoting, and disseminating the excellence of cheeses produced on the island, as well as encouraging the consumption of local products and continuous improvement in production processes.
The event is part of a series of island competitions that include wine, honey, oil, and potatoes. The main activity will be a blind tasting, where a panel of specialists will evaluate the submitted varieties. A jury composed of representatives from the participating cheese dairies will be responsible for awarding the prize for the Best Cheese of Gran Canaria.
Additionally, the program includes a guided tasting for industry professionals, which will delve into the organoleptic characteristics of the island's cheeses. The awards ceremony will take place in mid-October, in a joint event with the Island Wine Competition.
In this edition, 31 trophies will be awarded across various categories. The distinguished cheeses will also be entered into the international World Cheese Awards competition, which will be held in Córdoba from November 12 to 14, representing Gran Canaria's cheese production.
