The Cabildo de Gran Canaria has launched the traveling exhibition 'Gran Canaria Diversa', an initiative aimed at fostering social cohesion and combating hatred through the testimonies of 42 island residents.
The exhibition, promoted by the Institute of Social and Socio-sanitary Assistance (IAS), showcases the experiences of 42 individuals from all 21 municipalities of the island, who share their personal stories and aspirations. This initiative's main goal is to generate social reflection and dismantle prejudices, emphasizing the importance of coexistence in a diverse society.
“
"This exhibition does not just seek to show, it seeks to generate social reflection, to break prejudices through knowledge, to remind us that every person has a place in the construction of this society. It is not about inclusion, it is about coexistence."
The exhibition was inaugurated in the Patio of the Cabildo's Casa Palacio, where it will remain until April 29, before embarking on a tour across the entire island. Additionally, in the Pecera of the institutional headquarters, ten infographics are displayed, addressing values such as respect, empathy, and coexistence.
According to authorities, in a context of divisive narratives, projects like this are essential to approach diversity in an honest and humane way. The exhibition is considered a fundamental tool for classrooms, helping young people understand social plurality and build respect based on knowledge of others' experiences.

"No one is superfluous in Gran Canaria because of their way of thinking, their way of feeling, their origin, their identity, or their history. This Island has always been a crossroads, a place of welcome, a diverse territory. And that diversity does not divide us, but enriches us and opens paths to continue building a more inclusive and humane society."
The counselor for Social Policy, Accessibility, Equality, and Diversity emphasized that the positive reception of this educational experience led to expanding its scope to highlight the island's real diversity, reaffirming that Gran Canaria is a territory that values and thrives on its diversity.
