Gran Canaria Triumphs in Regional School Lucha Canaria Championships

Young athletes from Gran Canaria are crowned champions in the regional finals of Canarian wrestling held in Tenerife.

The male and female teams from Gran Canaria emerged victorious in the XLIII Canary Islands School Sports Championships, held in Tenerife.

The XLIII Canary Islands School Sports Championships concluded with exciting finals in Canarian wrestling and handball. The Canarian wrestling competitions took place at the Santiago Yanes arena, in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife), bringing together around 120 young wrestlers from the infant category from various islands.
The Gran Canaria teams demonstrated their superiority by becoming champions in both the male category, in the José Rodríguez Faro de Maspalomas Trophy, and the female category, in the Noelia Cabrera Trophy. The male team defeated Fuerteventura by a narrow margin of 13-12 in a hard-fought final, while the female team beat Fuerteventura 22-9.
In parallel, in Arrecife (Lanzarote), the regional handball finals for the pre-benjamin category were held, with the participation of over 150 athletes. BM Rocasa (Gran Canaria) was crowned male champion after defeating Grupo Capisa Vecindario Atlético 24-19. In the female category, Ca’Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero took the title after defeating their Lanzarote rival 20-13.
These school competitions, aimed at the development and coexistence of young athletes from the archipelago, will continue soon with events dedicated to nautical and aquatic disciplines in Fuerteventura and karate in Adeje.
