The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the yellow alert for maximum temperatures for the islands of the province of Las Palmas, which includes Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 35 degrees Celsius in the midlands and peaks of Gran Canaria, and up to 34 degrees in inland areas of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
This alert will remain active throughout Monday and will be repeated on Tuesday, with similar forecasts. On both days, the affected hours will be between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM. The northern ridge of Gran Canaria is excluded from these alerts.
For Tuesday, maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 35 degrees, with a low probability of reaching 37 degrees in inland areas. Maximums of 34 degrees are also expected in the northern midlands of Gran Canaria and in the metropolitan area of Tenerife, as well as on the southern slopes of Tenerife and La Gomera.
In response to this heat episode, the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert for forest fire risk in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Additionally, the pre-alert for maximum temperatures remains in effect throughout the archipelago.
In Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, temperatures could temporarily exceed 37 degrees, especially in inland areas located in the southern half of these islands.
